Israeli Businessman Noam Lanir Urges Unity and Love Amidst West Bank Terror Attack Fallout
Days after a deadly attack in the West Bank, Israeli businessman and philanthropist Noam Lanir spoke to Channel 7 about a heartfelt Facebook post he wrote that sparked widespread debate. Lanir explained that his intention was not to fuel division but to emphasize that the true enemy is not within Israeli society. He expressed deep frustration over the immediate blame placed on settlers and the settlement movement following such attacks, highlighting that two Jews were murdered and the focus should be on the terrorists rather than on Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria. Lanir warned that this blame mirrors the new antisemitism seen globally.
Lanir lamented the growing polarization in Israeli society, where political opponents increasingly view each other as enemies. He recalled the Altalena affair from nearly 80 years ago, referencing his uncle Eliyahu Lankin’s role and quoting journalist Azriel Karlibach’s message that preventing Jews from fighting Jews is more important than determining who was right. Lanir stressed that no victory justifies civil strife, as the cost is too high.
He called for recognition that all segments of Israeli society contribute to the nation’s fabric, from the liberal public driving the economy to the religious Zionists who bear the security burden. Citing the high number of graduates from the Eli pre-military academy who become IDF commanders, Lanir praised their dedication and sacrifice. He also pointed to recent security realities, including attacks near Gaza and the harsh treatment of hostages, as lessons demanding sober reflection.
Despite political turmoil and ongoing protests, Lanir remains hopeful and committed to fostering love and unity in Israel. He described himself as a believing Jew who will continue striving to heal divisions, emphasizing that while political disagreements are inevitable, the fundamental instinct to love Israel must not be lost. For Lanir, the shared responsibility to preserve the nation transcends any political victory or dispute.
