Iranian report says ballistic missiles are off the table in U.S. talks
Iranian news agency Mehr reported Friday morning that Tehran has still not given final approval to a draft memorandum of understanding with the United States. The report said the issue of Iran’s ballistic missiles will not be discussed in any part of the negotiations.
According to the Iranian report, the only subjects on the table are the nuclear file and economic issues, meaning sanctions. It also said the draft understanding includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, and unfreezing Iranian assets.
Mehr did not specify which assets would be released or the amount involved. The report comes against the backdrop of Israeli demands since the start of the war that any agreement with Iran address not only the nuclear program, but also ballistic missiles and Iran’s proxy organizations in the Middle East.
