Iranian state agency details draft with U.S., says no nuclear deal yet
Iran’s official news agency IRNA published the contents of a memorandum of understanding with the United States, laying out what the sides would and would not cover. According to the report, the current memorandum does not produce an agreement on the nuclear issue. Instead, talks on that subject would take place during the 60 days after signing.
IRNA said the negotiations over that period would be limited to three topics only, Iran’s civilian nuclear program, sanctions relief, and compensation. Iran’s missile capabilities would not be discussed at all.
The report also said the United States would commit to forcing Israel to end the war in Lebanon. In addition, some frozen Iranian assets would be released immediately upon signature.
On the Strait of Hormuz, IRNA reported that Iran would not hand over control of the waterway. That issue would be handled through a regional arrangement with Oman.
