Toronto Officer Killed During Raid Linked to Shooting Probe
A Toronto police officer was killed and another was critically injured on Thursday during a raid in the city’s northwest, while officers were executing search warrants connected to a series of shooting incidents, including the March shooting at the U.S. consulate in Toronto. The warrants targeted several apartments in a residential building whose occupants are suspected of involvement in the earlier attacks.
According to police, as officers entered one apartment, a suspect opened fire on the team. One officer died at the scene, and a second was taken for medical treatment in critical condition. Police said they have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting and are continuing operations at the scene.
Law enforcement officials also noted that since the start of the American-Israeli offensive against Iran, Canada has seen several shooting incidents targeting synagogues, Jewish-owned or Jewish-run institutions, and businesses owned by Iranian Canadians opposed to Tehran’s Islamic regime.
