Former US Soldier Steals Israeli Flag in New York, Films Antisemitic Act

The anti-antisemitism group Stop Antisemitism released footage showing a man stopping his car outside a private home in New York, entering the property, and ripping down an Israeli flag displayed alongside an American flag. The man then filmed himself with the stolen flag and posted the video on his Telegram channel. The group identified the suspect as Michael Zomer, a former US Army soldier. According to Stop Antisemitism, Zomer runs a Telegram channel where he shares antisemitic content, praises Adolf Hitler, displays neo-Nazi symbols, performs Nazi salutes, and documents himself stealing Israeli flags from private property.

Stop Antisemitism further claimed that despite his activities, Zomer continues to receive benefits from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, funded by taxpayers. The organization urged US authorities to investigate Zomer's behavior, which they described as deliberate, premeditated, and celebrated, not a spontaneous act of vandalism. The video posted on X (formerly Twitter) has garnered tens of thousands of views.

Public reaction included comments emphasizing that whether planned or not, the act constitutes a hate crime and vandalism. One user noted that the hate crime designation makes the offense more serious and suggested that Zomer could face significant legal consequences, including community service or imprisonment. Stop Antisemitism called for legal action against Zomer to address his antisemitic propaganda and property crimes.
