Israeli Government Approves Shin Bet Role in Combating Crime in Arab Society

The Israeli government has approved a new plan to intensify the fight against crime in the Arab community by integrating the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) alongside the Israel Police. The plan allocates approximately 364.5 million shekels to the Shin Bet to establish a dedicated unit focused on combating arms trafficking and smuggling, while enhancing intelligence and operational capabilities. Starting in 2026, the Shin Bet will add 130 personnel positions and receive an annual budget of 35 million shekels.

The Israel Police will receive about 132.4 million shekels to create a national specialized unit and strengthen technological and operational resources. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the government's determination to fight crime in the Arab sector, stating that Arab citizens deserve the same security, law, and order as Jewish citizens.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called the approval a "historic day," highlighting that the funds will bolster Shin Bet and police efforts against crime organizations. Social Equality Minister May Golan, involved in advancing the plan, said the Shin Bet's involvement will aid in eradicating crime and save lives through this initiative.
