AIPAC Cuts Fundraising Support for Democrats Voting Against Israel Aid

Following a recent U.S. congressional vote on aid to Israel, the pro-Israel lobby group AIPAC has taken the unusual step of halting fundraising support for Democratic members of Congress who backed canceling military and civilian aid to Israel. Reports from the U.S., including Politico, indicate that nearly 20 Democratic lawmakers had their donation links removed from AIPAC's website over the weekend. The site typically features members of Congress seen as supporters of U.S.-Israel relations and allows the public to contribute directly to their campaigns. This removal could significantly impact these candidates' fundraising capabilities.

AIPAC spokeswoman Daryn Sousa expressed disappointment with those who voted against aid, emphasizing the organization's appreciation for elected officials committed to supporting Israel. According to Jewish Insider, the majority of candidates benefiting from AIPAC's fundraising network are now Republicans, highlighting a weakening bipartisan consensus on support for Israel.

One prominent figure affected by this move is former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, long considered a key Democratic ally of Israel. After voting to cancel aid, AIPAC removed its recognition statement for her from their website. Last week, 103 Democratic members voted in favor of canceling aid to Israel, while 98 opposed it. Despite significant Democratic support, the proposal failed as all Republicans voted against it.
