Israeli Comedy Series 'HaPashuta' Blends Camp Humor and Social Satire on Kan 11

The Israeli comedy series "HaPashuta" ("The Simple One"), airing on Kan 11 and Kan BOX, follows Betzi, a modest young woman from the southern city of Ofakim, whose engagement to Nahorai unravels during their henna party when he realizes her only ambition is obsessively watching children’s shows. Publicly humiliated, Betzi leaves her hometown to study communications in Tel Aviv, hoping to win Nahorai back. She is accompanied by her two close friends, Timor, a semi-elitist, and Nofer, an aggressive character.

Created by Bar Almaliah-Duntzov, "HaPashuta" originated from a popular Facebook and Instagram page that humorously bridges social divides, appealing to diverse audiences across Israel. The show’s humor draws on pop culture references and stereotypes, mixing soft sarcasm with self-aware simplicity. Kan 11’s decision to adapt the digital phenomenon into a scripted series was seen as a natural step, with a strong creative team including Almaliah-Duntzov, Uri Gross, Oshrit Sarusi, Chen Rotman, and director Dan Messer, known for cult Israeli programs.

The series is noted for its colorful, campy aesthetic reminiscent of the cult show "Johnny," featuring exaggerated performances and guest appearances by internet celebrities. Despite its queer undertones and traditional characters, the show embraces a theatrical, over-the-top style.
