US Announces Start of Israeli Withdrawal from Pilot Zones in Southern Lebanon

The US State Department announced on Monday the commencement of the Israeli Defense Forces' withdrawal from pilot areas in southern Lebanon, specifically the villages of Farran, Sarifa, and Zotar al-Arab. This move follows the framework agreement signed by Israel, Lebanon, and the United States. The statement emphasized that this step is a direct outcome of last week's discussions held in Rome between Israeli and Lebanese representatives. The US pledged to continue close cooperation with both sides to implement the framework and achieve successful results.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, affiliated with Hezbollah, stressed the importance of adhering to the ceasefire and ensuring Israel's full withdrawal from the occupied southern territories. Berri expressed hope that the upcoming meeting between Lebanese President and US President Donald Trump would yield positive and serious outcomes for Lebanon’s liberation and securing its rights. He highlighted that the priority is to reach a genuine solution regardless of its origin.

In response to the US announcement, an Israeli security official stated that preparations for the withdrawal would begin soon, noting that the real test lies in the Lebanese army's implementation of the agreement. The IDF is increasing its readiness given the current situation, but no further changes are planned at this time.
