NVIDIA Launches AI Tool to Detect Synthetic Videos Ahead of Israeli Elections
As Israel approaches its upcoming elections, the political landscape is expected to be transformed by artificial intelligence technologies. Traditional campaign methods like propaganda videos and billboards may give way to AI-generated content, raising concerns about distinguishing real from fake media. In response, NVIDIA announced a new tool called Synthetic Video Detector at the SIGGRAPH conference, designed to help media organizations identify AI-created video content as part of their verification processes.
The tool operates by analyzing video frame-by-frame and assigning a score that estimates the likelihood of synthetic content. This assists news outlets in prioritizing suspicious clips for further review, adding an extra layer of information to editorial judgment without replacing human decision-making. NVIDIA reports that the detector maintains high accuracy even when videos are resized, compressed, cropped, or re-encoded, achieving up to 92% accuracy on uncompressed videos and around 82% after heavy compression.
The service can process 1080p video in just 22 milliseconds on NVIDIA RTX systems and about 30 milliseconds on NVIDIA L40 processors. NVIDIA also revealed that Wowza, a live video streaming technology provider operating in 170 countries, has integrated this tool into its platforms. This development comes amid broader AI advancements, including Meta's personal assistant arriving in Israel and Chinese companies claiming progress toward OpenAI-level capabilities. Separately, Tel-Hai College in Israel is launching a faculty dedicated to AI systems engineering, reflecting the growing importance of AI in the region.
