Israel Approves Eastward Extension of M1 Metro Line to Connect Kfar Saba with Eastern Rail Corridor

The National Infrastructure Committee (NIU) has approved a plan to extend the M1 metro line approximately 2.5 kilometers eastward from its current terminus in Kfar Saba to the eastern rail corridor. The extension will primarily be underground and will include two new stations: one in the Yoseftal neighborhood, despite opposition from the Metropolitan Mass Transit Company (NTA), aimed at supporting a major urban renewal project there; and another at the Kfar Saba North integrated transportation hub, which will connect the metro with Israel Railways and settlements in the Samaria region.

Simultaneously, the committee rejected a proposal for a commercial connection between the Ra'anana and Kfar Saba branches, determining that it would negatively impact train frequency and service goals. This decision reflects a focus on maintaining efficient service while expanding the metro network to better serve growing urban and regional transportation needs.
