Four Professors Resign from Israeli Higher Education Council Over Gender Segregation Law

Four professors resigned from Israel's Council for Higher Education following the approval of a law enforcing gender segregation in academia. The professors who stepped down are Marcel Mahlouf from the Technion, Jihad Al-Tsane from Ben-Gurion University, Leah Laor from Levinsky-Wingate Academic Center, and Idit Tshuva from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. They stated that Israel's achievements in science, technology, and medicine rely on an independent, open, and equal higher education system. They warned that undermining the system's independence and values is not only a blow to academia but also threatens the resilience of the state. Furthermore, they expressed concern that the new law could damage the international standing of Israeli academia.
