US Launches Ninth Airstrike Wave on Iran Amid Rising Regional Tensions

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it completed its ninth wave of airstrikes targeting Iran, striking command centers, air defense systems, naval monitoring posts, and missile and drone launch sites. The announcement came on Monday morning following a series of escalating attacks in the region. After the strikes, air raid sirens sounded in Bahrain and Kuwait, which reported facing drone attacks. Iran claimed to have attacked two oil tankers attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, accusing the US of encouraging these movements.

US President Donald Trump stated the strikes were conducted "in honor of three great patriots," referring to three American soldiers killed over the weekend in Jordan and Iraq, though the exact number remains uncertain due to ongoing identification of remains. Prior to the US strikes, sirens were also heard in Bahrain, with the US embassy warning of a possible Iranian attack in Manama. Iranian media reported US strikes in Tabriz, Bushehr, Konarak, and Mahshahr, and Iran's news agency claimed an American drone was shot down.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards reported two oil tankers exploded and were stopped after attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz outside the Iranian-designated route, warning the waterway would remain unsafe as long as US "aggression" continued. British maritime authorities reported a ship on fire near Oman. Satellite images released by Soar Atlas showed damage to US bases in the Gulf and Jordan, including the Muwaffaq al-Salti Air Base and King Faisal Air Base, where five US soldiers were injured, as well as the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

The strikes come amid heightened exchanges of fire in the region. Israeli security officials stated there is no immediate threat of Iranian missile fire toward Israel, though alertness remains high. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US remains open to diplomatic solutions with Iran. The recent US strikes targeted infrastructure near Bandar Abbas, including roads, railways, tunnels, and bridges, following Iran's insistence on sovereignty and tolls in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on vessels not following Iranian shipping routes.

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei condemned the US for violating agreements, calling the US "the great Satan" and warning of lasting consequences. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi accused the US of aggression and breaking commitments, emphasizing Iran's need to defend itself. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi urged adherence to agreements and avoidance of further escalation.
