RCS Technology Ends Pixelated Messages, Enhances Chat Quality Across Android and iPhone

For years, users have struggled with blurry images and pixelated videos when sending media between Android and iPhone devices due to outdated SMS and MMS protocols. However, the adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS) is set to revolutionize messaging by enabling high-quality media sharing and advanced chat features. Apple has supported RCS for nearly two years, and its widespread adoption now allows users to send files over 100MB in original quality, eliminating aggressive compression seen in MMS.

Beyond improved media quality, RCS offers capabilities such as editing sent messages within 15 minutes, deleting unread messages for all participants via Google Messages, and real-time delivery and read receipts. It also supports seamless emoji reactions across platforms. A significant upgrade is end-to-end encryption, enhancing privacy compared to the unsecured SMS system. Messages are transmitted over internet or Wi-Fi networks rather than traditional cellular voice channels.

To activate RCS, iPhone users can enable it in Settings under Messages by toggling the RCS option, while Android users can do so via Google Messages app settings under RCS Chats. These features function only when both sender and receiver have RCS enabled. Once fully adopted, RCS will provide faster, higher-quality, and more secure communication regardless of device type.
