Singer Amir Benayoun Affirms Support for Netanyahu and Opens Up About Personal Struggles
Israeli singer Amir Benayoun declared in a recent interview that he intends to vote only for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Speaking with Ofira Asayag, Benayoun explained that despite criticism for his political views over the years, he does not hide his support for Netanyahu, stating, "I will not vote for anyone but Bibi." He expressed concern that without Netanyahu, the situation in Israel would be much worse, quoting former U.S. President Donald Trump: "If not Bibi, you wouldn’t have a country." Benayoun admitted he is not deeply engaged in politics but feels there is no suitable alternative candidate.
Benayoun also addressed the criticism he has faced, saying he sees no reason to conceal his opinions and prefers honesty about his political stance. On a personal note, he reflected on his life, saying he does not consider himself a happy person but feels more at peace now, crediting music as a vital part of his wellbeing. He described his children as his greatest treasures, noting his daughter Naomi is a songwriter and singer, while his son Israel is a shy pianist who is developing his musical path.
The singer also spoke candidly about his divorce and his recovery from alcohol addiction. He acknowledged his own faults in relationships and shared insights into his rehabilitation process, emphasizing that recovery is possible with strong willpower. He concluded that self-forgiveness will be key to his ongoing sobriety and happiness.
