Google Launches AI Tool to Create Personalized Video Avatars Without Cameras
Google has introduced a major update to its video creation tool, Google Vids, enabling users to star in personalized AI-generated videos without needing a camera. By simply uploading a selfie and a short voice recording, users can create digital avatars that look and sound like them. The tool leverages Google's advanced AI model, Gemini Omni, allowing users to generate custom videos from text prompts and reference images.
Users can further customize their videos by adjusting backgrounds, lighting, and adding post-production effects. The platform supports step-by-step editing, eliminating the need to restart projects due to errors. This upgrade transforms Google Vids from a basic workplace aid into a comprehensive professional video creation platform.
Currently available as part of Google Workspace, the service targets business communication needs such as training and onboarding videos. Personalized avatars aim to make content more engaging and conversational, potentially increasing viewer interaction. To ensure transparency, all AI-generated videos will feature a hidden SynthID watermark indicating their artificial origin.
The avatar feature is linked to users' Google accounts and is initially accessible only to users aged 18 and older in select regions. Google's entry into this space is expected to intensify competition among existing AI video tools.
