MK Michael Malchieli Criticizes Bureaucrats for Undermining Government Authority

MK Michael Malchieli sharply criticized government bureaucrats and legal advisors for obstructing the government's work during an interview on the Knesset Channel's program "Personal Matter." He accused officials from the Ministry of Justice of negotiating with ministers in ways that bypass legal standards, questioning the legality and accountability of such actions. Malchieli claimed that bureaucrats interfere in security, economic, religious, and social decisions without oversight, acting according to their own political agendas, which he said reflects the frustration felt by a significant portion of the public.

Malchieli also noted that even the Supreme Court has recognized this problem, delivering repeated blows to political actors, indicating that the judiciary itself has lost its last shred of impartiality. When asked about the courts' treatment of the ultra-Orthodox community, he responded that the community, being a relatively small sector, rarely receives favorable rulings and that the courts are not objective. However, he acknowledged that the judiciary has recognized limits regarding the excessive actions of bureaucrats.

Malchieli's comments highlight ongoing tensions between elected officials, bureaucrats, and the judiciary, emphasizing concerns about democratic representation and the rule of law in Israel.
