Maccabi Tel Aviv Wins Israeli Super Cup with 3-1 Victory Over Hapoel Be'er Sheva
Maccabi Tel Aviv secured the first title of the 2026/27 season by defeating reigning champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva 3-1 in the Israeli Super Cup at Turner Stadium on Thursday evening. Saeid Abu Farhi scored twice, Dor Peretz added a goal, and Sagiv Yehezkel assisted all three goals for Maccabi. The yellow team took the lead in the 10th minute after a turnover allowed Yehezkel to set up Abu Farhi for an easy finish. Be'er Sheva equalized five minutes later through Kings Kangwa following a rebound from a header by Guy Mizrahi.
Maccabi regained the lead in the 58th minute with a team move culminating in a shot by Dor Peretz, assisted again by Yehezkel. In the 66th minute, Hapoel Be'er Sheva was reduced to ten men after Roy Revivo received a second yellow card for a high tackle on Amit Ohana. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Maccabi extended their lead in the 72nd minute when Itay Ben Hamo passed to Peretz, who flicked the ball to Yehezkel, who then crossed to Abu Farhi for his second goal.
An unusual refereeing incident occurred in the 80th minute when referee Aviv Klein initially issued a second yellow card to Yehezkel for delaying his exit during a substitution. However, after VAR review revealed that Yehezkel was delayed by drinks thrown from the stands by Be'er Sheva fans, the card was rescinded. In stoppage time, Hapoel Be'er Sheva's expensive new signing João Victor was injured. Shortly after, the match ended with Maccabi celebrating their 3-1 victory and first trophy of the season.
