Italy Proposed to Monitor Demilitarization in Southern Lebanon During Israel-Lebanon Talks
In recent negotiations between Israel and Lebanon concerning the withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces from southern Lebanon, a proposal was made to deploy Italian troops to oversee the demilitarization of the area, including disarmament and preventing Hezbollah militants from operating there. This information was reported by ynet. The talks, held in Rome and mediated by the United States, also included a suggestion for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to supervise the process. However, both Israel and the U.S. strongly opposed UNIFIL's involvement. Due to this opposition, the Italian proposal gained prominence as an alternative. Security officials have indicated that the proposal is currently under consideration by the involved parties.
