93-Year-Old Run Over, Driver Gets Out with a Metal Rod and Is Attacked in Rare Road Chaos Footage
The footage shows the anarchy, for more than two hours Israel came to a standstill because of protests by extremist Haredim that included blocking major roads and causing severe disruptions to train traffic as well. Unusual recordings show the chaos that evening, including at Ben Gurion Airport.
In a protest on Jabotinsky Road in Petah Tikva, near the Geha Interchange, a driver was filmed accelerating while protesters were around her and hitting a 93-year-old man. He was moderately injured and evacuated to Beilinson Hospital with a head injury. Shortly afterward, the driver turned herself in to the police.
At another protest point against the arrest of draft evaders, on Route 6 near the Ben Shemen Interchange, a female driver got out with a metal rod toward protesters, waved it at them, and was then attacked. At the same location, the windshield of the car of Dudu Sassi, spokesman for Transport Minister Miri Regev, was smashed. Police tried to direct traffic, and when Sassi tried to advance, the protesters beat on the car and shattered its windshield.
At the Ganot Interchange, exchanges of blows between protesters and drivers were documented, and there too a run-over incident took place. A 21-year-old man was moderately injured with injuries to his limbs and head after being hit by a vehicle, and MDA teams at the scene treated him.
