17 Illegal Palestinian Residents Set Up Sleeping Quarters on Jerusalem School Roof During Summer Camps

Seventeen Palestinians from the West Bank, staying illegally without entry permits, were found to have established an improvised sleeping area on the roof of a school in Jerusalem. The makeshift quarters included rooms, beds, and showers. This discovery occurred while children were attending summer camps and activities at the school.

The school’s security officer, Inbar Toizer, explained that the information came from a routine inspection by the school guard, who noticed mattresses and personal belongings on the roof. It is believed the individuals had been hiding there for about a week to ten days, likely arriving during the school’s summer break, though summer camp activities were still ongoing.

Concerned parents reported the presence of these unauthorized individuals to the local community policing commander. Sergeant Major Yasser Suwaed of the Moriah police station said they acted immediately upon receiving the information, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation with residents to ensure the safety of children during summer activities.

Police forces raided the school building early in the morning, arrested all 17 illegal residents, and transferred them for investigation. The Israel Police stated that they will continue focused operations in places designated for children and youth, maintaining zero tolerance for lawbreakers to protect public safety.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Jerusalem neighborhoods and the vigilance of local authorities and community members in safeguarding children’s environments during the summer period.
