17 Illegal Palestinian Residents Set Up Unauthorized Sleeping Quarters on Jerusalem School Roof During Summer Camps

Seventeen Palestinians from the West Bank, staying illegally without entry permits, established an improvised sleeping area with rooms, beds, and showers on the roof of a school in Jerusalem's Beit Safafa neighborhood. This occurred while children were attending summer camps and activities at the school. Concerned parents reported the presence of these unauthorized individuals to the community policing commander. The school's security officer, Inbar Toizer, explained that the discovery was made during a routine inspection by the school guard, who found mattresses and personal belongings on the roof, suggesting the group had been hiding there for about a week to ten days, likely arriving during the school's summer break.

Following the report, police were called and the unauthorized presence ceased. All 17 suspects were arrested and taken for questioning. Community policing commander Sergeant Major Yasser Swaad emphasized the importance of close cooperation with residents to ensure rapid response and maintain the safety of children during summer activities. The Israel Police stated that early morning operational activity at the school led to the discovery of the illegal residents who had taken over parts of the building. The police affirmed their commitment to zero tolerance enforcement, especially in locations designated for children and youth, to protect public safety and security.
