KKL Unveils Gush Katif Memorial Grove with Observation Tower in Kisufim Forest

The Jewish National Fund (KKL) has completed the establishment of the Gush Katif Memorial Grove in Kisufim Forest, featuring an 18-meter observation tower, walking trails, gathering spaces, and heritage signage. The site, inaugurated on Wednesday, serves as a memorial and meeting place for former residents of Gush Katif and the wider public. The project, costing approximately 5.5 million shekels, was developed in cooperation with the Gush Katif Settlers Committee and the Gush Katif Heritage Center.

The initiative began with an annual tree-planting event requested by the settlers' committee and heritage center, which evolved into the desire for a permanent memorial site to host ceremonies and gatherings. The observation tower offers views toward the Gaza Strip and the former Gush Katif settlements. Surrounding the tower is a large plaza and a circular walking path with seating areas and informational signs narrating the history and legacy of Gush Katif communities.

Development occurred in two phases, with the second phase temporarily halted due to the outbreak of Operation Iron Swords and the site's proximity to the border. After receiving IDF approval, work resumed about six months ago and was completed, including repairs of war-related damages. KKL Chairman Eyal Ostrinsky emphasized the grove as a testament to KKL's commitment to preserving the story of Israeli settlement and providing a dignified place in the landscape. He highlighted the grove as a place of memory, gathering, and hope in a region that has experienced significant upheaval.

Micha Hadad, CEO of the Gush Katif Heritage Center, thanked KKL for their cooperation and invited the public to visit the site to learn about the remarkable settlement history of Gush Katif.
