Astronauts Bake Birthday Cake in Zero Gravity on International Space Station

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) successfully prepared a birthday cake in zero gravity, a process captured in a viral video shared on social media. The cake was made to celebrate NASA astronaut Jessica Meir's birthday, which she marked approximately 400 kilometers above Earth. Due to the challenges of baking in microgravity, where crumbs can float and damage sensitive equipment, the crew had to improvise the recipe.

Russian cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev prepared the cake using food supplies from both the American and Russian space agencies. The cake consisted of sweetened condensed milk, layers of honey cake slices, yogurt, and rehydrated dried berries. All ingredients were carefully adhered together to prevent any floating debris. Meir expressed gratitude on Instagram, praising her crew as "true experts of space cuisine" and noting she has eaten more cakes in space than on Earth. The European Space Agency (ESA) also commented on the video, describing the cake as "incredibly delicious."
