Israeli Police Solve Ashkelon Murder Over Parking Dispute, Arrest Suspect
The Southern District Prosecutor's Office in Israel has filed a prosecutorial statement and requested an extension of detention for a suspect in the murder of Alexey Kamnin in Ashkelon. The suspect, a man in his 20s and resident of Ashkelon, is expected to be formally charged and held until the conclusion of legal proceedings. The incident occurred in early June when Kamnin was critically injured in a violent altercation and later died in hospital. Police responded promptly to the scene and arrested the suspect within hours.
An extensive investigation led by the Lahish Regional Unit of the Israel Police uncovered that the murder stemmed from a dispute over a parking spot in the neighborhood where both men lived. According to the investigation, the suspect attacked Kamnin during the confrontation, stabbing him in the upper body, which resulted in his death. The case was assigned to the Lahish Central Unit following a situation assessment by Southern District Commander Chief Superintendent Haim Bublil.
The investigation involved comprehensive evidence collection, witness testimonies, and advanced technological methods, culminating in a strong evidentiary basis against the suspect. Lahish Unit Commander Superintendent Shahar Levy emphasized the complexity of the case and the professionalism of the police in securing the evidence and bringing the perpetrator to justice. He reiterated the Israel Police's commitment to combating serious crime and ensuring public safety.
