Haifa’s Renowned Port 24 Restaurant Reinvents Itself with Chef Box Home Dining Concept
For nearly two decades, Port 24 was more than just a restaurant in Haifa; it was a local culinary institution celebrated for its refined European standards and classic French fine dining experience. Known for using local ingredients like pine cones and mushrooms from the Carmel region, the restaurant earned praise for its elegant atmosphere, attentive service, and iconic dishes such as onion cream soup with truffle foam and juniper-marinated duck breast. It became a beloved venue for special occasions and a pilgrimage site for food enthusiasts across Israel.
Owners and chefs Tal Galper and Ran Rosh recall the restaurant as a family favorite and a symbol of culinary excellence in Haifa. However, after relocating to a new, upscale venue, the outbreak of war disrupted their momentum, forcing the closure of the cherished establishment. The closure was a painful blow to the owners and loyal patrons alike, with Galper and Rosh describing the experience as witnessing a lifelong project collapse.
Refusing to give up, the duo is now launching a fresh venture called "The New Port," which aims to bring the restaurant’s fine dining secrets directly into customers’ homes. Through a crowdfunding campaign on Headstart, they are introducing Chef Box meal kits featuring the restaurant’s signature dishes in secure packaging that preserves freshness and presentation. Offerings include South French bouillabaisse, Spanish paella, and a box combining all flagship dishes. Additional products like broths and crunchy garnishes will also be available to enhance the home dining experience.
The campaign offers various rewards to supporters, including a digital recipe book with ten signature dishes for 120 shekels, discounts on orders for up to a year, and exclusive gifts such as a liter of their famous onion cream soup with truffle foam. Higher-tier backers can receive group Chef Box sets or private chef dinners hosted by Galper and Rosh. This initiative not only allows fans to enjoy professional-grade cuisine at home but also supports the revival of a beloved local business amid challenging times.
"Let’s show them it’s possible," the owners urge, inviting the public to help rebuild Port 24’s legacy through this innovative home dining concept.
