Former Mossad Official Debunks Western Myths About Overthrowing Iran's Regime
Rami Igra, former head of the Prisoners and Missing Persons Division at Mossad, challenged Western illusions about a popular uprising capable of toppling Iran's clerical regime. Speaking on Channel 14, Igra revealed that 61% of Iran's population are traditional Persians, many of whom support the ruling establishment and benefit from its survival. He highlighted that in recent elections, around 30 million Iranians voted not for reformists or liberals but for hardline candidates, underscoring the regime's continued domestic strength.
Igra criticized the Western political failure that allows Iran's regime to experience an economic revival while some media outlets promote unfounded fantasies of imminent internal change in Tehran. He warned that while liberal protesters demonstrate, the regime views itself as victorious in regional conflicts. Igra also pointed to the United States' search for an "escape route" from confrontation, which inadvertently sustains the regime's power.
Channel 14 emphasized its commitment to confronting uncomfortable truths about Iran, responding to viewer questions about the prospects of regime change. The program rejected simplistic slogans of an "Iranian Spring" and instead provided expert analysis grounded in facts and direct knowledge of the situation on the ground. The discussion highlighted the complexity of Iran's political landscape and the challenges facing those hoping for rapid transformation.
