Rani Amrani, an expert on Iranian affairs, said today (Wednesday) in an interview with Ido Tauber what he sees as the way to topple the Iranian regime: “No matter how many millions go out into the streets, they will not be able, with empty hands, to bring down the regime on their own. Only if they are given weapons will they be able to bring down the regime, which is now at a vulnerable point and should be taken advantage of.”

According to him, despite the military pressure being applied to Tehran, the regime continues to hold to its positions because of its murderous ideological character: “Not only are they not backing away from their demands, they continue to threaten the United States and Israel. This is an extremist ideology that is difficult to understand in the West. Extremism is part of their survival.”

Amrani explained that in his view, extremist ideology cannot be eradicated through bombings alone: “Bombings weaken the regime, but it is not certain they are what will bring it down. The only solution to the Iranian nuclear issue is the overthrow of the regime. There is no other solution.”

He then referred to past protest attempts in Iran, saying that even when millions of citizens go out into the streets, it is not enough against the regime’s repression mechanisms: “The Iranians tell me: we came out in the millions, we did the maximum to bring down the regime, but it brought machine guns and fired into the crowd. This is a brutal regime that is willing to kill its own people in order to survive.”
