Eight-Year-Old Girl Publicly Humiliated by Camp Counselor in Kiryat Ono
An eight-year-old girl was publicly humiliated by her camp counselor in Kiryat Ono after she wet her pants, leading the counselor to call her "disgusting" in front of other children. The girl's mother, Alexandra Kaplan, recounted the incident on the program "HaOlam HaBoker," explaining that her daughter was too shocked and ashamed to immediately share what happened. Kaplan described how the counselor smelled the girl and said, "Ew, you stink," then quickly told the children not to repeat what she said. The incident caused discomfort among the other children, and the girl expressed to her mother that she did not want anyone else to experience such treatment. Kaplan emphasized that the humiliation was especially painful because it came from the counselor, who was supposed to provide safety and support. Despite reporting the case, Kaplan criticized the authorities' response, stating that the counselor's behavior was deemed acceptable and that the issue was dismissed as a misunderstanding by the children. She demanded justice and a safe environment for her daughter, who now feels fear at the camp.
The Kiryat Ono municipality responded that after a thorough investigation involving all relevant parties and respecting the confidentiality of minors, they would not engage in a public dispute that could misrepresent the situation. They noted that the camp operators, school administration, and municipal education department had invited the mother for a meeting to clarify the matter, but she refused to attend. Meanwhile, the girl continues to attend the camp and participate in activities.
