US: Suspected hazardous materials incident at the Pentagon
US media reported a suspected hazardous materials incident at the Pentagon. CNN reported that several floors of the vast building were placed under lockdown, while employees in other areas were ordered to evacuate. A source familiar with the details told the network that officers were wearing gas masks and chemical protective gear. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the building's systems had detected "an air quality issue that required protective measures until we could determine its meaning." He added that, in accordance with "standard procedures," workers were instructed to shelter in areas affected by the identified issue.
