Teen Hospitalized After Finding Hard, Glass-Like Pieces in Potato Chip Bag Bought in Ariel
A 15-year-old girl from Yakir was hospitalized after discovering hard, glass-like pieces inside a bag of potato chips purchased at a Rami Levy store in Ariel. The snack package, which contained multiple chip bags, was reportedly unopened when brought home. The girl told ynet she initially felt something unusual and hard while eating, then realized she was chewing on pieces resembling glass coated with chip flakes, raising concerns about the risk to younger children.
The girl's mother reported they went to Beilinson Hospital's emergency room, where X-rays and gastroscopy found no foreign objects, though the girl still experiences pain and scratches in her throat. Following ynet's inquiry, a company representative contacted the mother, stating the snack would be collected for examination the next morning. The company suspects the pieces are hardened starch rather than glass, but acknowledges the potential hazard of such hard fragments in food.
The teenager emphasized the danger, saying that whether the fragments are glass or hardened starch, their glass-like texture poses a serious risk and consumers should be warned. Strauss, the manufacturer, confirmed the pieces will be collected for testing to determine their nature.
