Teen Hospitalized After Finding Glass-Like Pieces in Popular Israeli Snack
A 15-year-old girl from central Israel was hospitalized at Beilinson Hospital after discovering hard, glass-like pieces inside a bag of popular potato chips. The snack pack was purchased at a Rami Levy store in Ariel and reportedly arrived sealed. The girl described feeling something strange and hard while eating, then realizing she was biting into shards resembling glass coated with chip flakes, which made them difficult to spot. Her mother said they went to the emergency room where X-rays and an endoscopy found no foreign objects, but the girl still experiences pain and scratches in her throat.
The company suspects the pieces are not glass but hardened starch, though this still represents a serious safety issue that could cause choking or injury. Strauss, the manufacturer, stated they will collect the sample for further testing. The incident has raised concerns about product safety and the risk to children consuming the snack.
