Israeli Education Ministry Approves 'Growing Leadership' Teacher Training Program
The Israeli Ministry of Education has officially approved the inclusion of the "Growing Leadership" training program into the official Gefen system database. This approval allows school principals nationwide to order the program for their teaching staff with full state funding as part of the flexible resource package for educational institutions. The decision comes amid a growing wave of teacher resignations and burnout in Israeli schools, driven by daily challenges such as severe disciplinary issues, social ostracism among students, and complex relationships with parents who expect schools to "fix" their children.
Developed by parenting and staff facilitator Batya Vegeshel, the program has gained momentum internationally, reaching tens of thousands of mothers across more than 30 countries. It evolved organically from parent coaching workshops to direct work with teachers, responding to educators' requests for tools to restore classroom authority. Unlike temporary sanctions or isolated solutions, the program offers a year-long model aimed at rebuilding teachers' natural authority.
The training equips school teams with practical strategies to manage classrooms, address negative social roles students adopt (such as "the clown" or "the rebel"), and prevent social exclusion among age groups. A key focus is on managing communication with students' parents, reducing conflicts, and shifting from power struggles to constructive partnerships, while dismantling the mistaken expectation that schools should replace parents in child-rearing.
Implemented throughout the school year, the program includes six experiential training sessions for teachers, ongoing professional support tailored to each school's needs, and certification of an internal managerial figure as a mentor to independently lead the process in the future.
