Class Action Filed Against Rami Levy for Underweight Private Label Products

A class action lawsuit has been filed at the Jerusalem District Court against Rami Levy Shivuk Hashikma and R.S. Food Import and Production Company. The suit alleges that several private label food products sold by Rami Levy were marketed with declared weights higher than their actual contents. The plaintiff claims independent tests and examinations by the Israeli Standards Institute revealed discrepancies between the stated and actual weights, leading consumers to pay full price for less product than promised.

The plaintiff, Hadas Livmor, represented by attorneys Itay Argov and Asaf Pink, states that R.S. is the manufacturer while Rami Levy markets the products under its private brand. Products tested include cocoa powder, chocolate drink mixes, chicken-flavored soup powders, shredded coconut, and powdered sugar. The issue was first noticed after Livmor purchased two 500-gram cocoa powder packages and found their weight to be less than declared. Further tests on similar and other private label products across various Rami Levy branches nationwide reportedly confirmed consistent weight shortfalls.

The lawsuit argues that the defendants either knew or should have known that the declared weight must accurately reflect the product content, and that misleading labeling constitutes consumer deception. The plaintiff requests the court to certify the case as a class action, order the defendants to cease the alleged conduct, require accurate weight labeling, and award compensation to affected consumers. The claim’s monetary value has not yet been determined. The court has not ruled on the case, and the defendants have not submitted their defense.
