Hamas Condemns Givat Ze'ev's Upgrade to City Status, Mayor Stands Firm
The recent decision to elevate Givat Ze'ev from a local council to a city has sparked strong reactions, including a sharp condemnation from the terrorist organization Hamas. Hamas criticized the move as a dangerous act of aggression and part of a broader plan to establish Israeli control in the northwest Jerusalem area.
Despite the harsh denunciation, the new mayor of Givat Ze'ev, Yossi Asraf, remains unfazed. He framed the city's development as a positive response to those opposing Israel, emphasizing a vision of growth and life against a backdrop of destruction and death promoted by Hamas. Asraf highlighted that Givat Ze'ev is situated in the heart of the tribal lands of Benjamin, near the biblical city of Gibeon, asserting that the city is being built on ancestral land.
The mayor pointed to ongoing construction projects, new educational institutions, and the influx of young families as clear evidence of the city's success and resilience. He stated, "We are here to stay, grow, and thrive," promising residents that this upgrade is just the beginning of Givat Ze'ev's development. This move not only has security and political implications but also solidifies Givat Ze'ev’s strategic importance in the settlement map around Jerusalem.
