Democrats Party Sees Record Membership Ahead of 2026 Primaries
The Democrats party has closed its voter registration for the upcoming 2026 primary elections with a record number of members, the highest seen on the Israeli left since the 1990s. A total of 112,376 registered members will be eligible to vote in the internal elections scheduled for next week. Voting will be conducted digitally, either at designated voting centers or by phone.
The registration period ended last week, with 51 candidates competing for approximately seven realistic seats. The party list is led by Chairman Yair Golan, who also holds reserved spots in the top ten. Additionally, three seats are reserved for candidates from the Meretz party. The candidate list ensures equal representation of men and women.
Leading candidates include current Knesset members Naama Lazimi, Gilad Kariv, and Efrat Rayten, alongside Meretz representatives Mossi Raz and Avi Dabush. The full list of candidates, presented alphabetically, features a diverse group from various regions, including names such as Tomer Avital, Yoav Agami, Yariv Oppenheimer, and many others.
