Gas Cylinder Explosion in Jerusalem Apartment Leaves 80-Year-Old Woman Dead
A gas cylinder exploded a short time ago, on Thursday, in an apartment in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem. A preliminary examination indicates that the incident was likely caused by a gas leak from the kitchen area of one of the apartments, which reached an explosive concentration and caused the blast.
Two people and a dog that were inside the building were injured in the explosion. MDA medics and paramedics were forced to pronounce the death of an 80-year-old woman who was injured, and evacuated a man in his 50s in serious condition with burns to his body to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
The medics who treated the injured said that due to the narrow streets in the Jewish Quarter, they had to reach the scene using a specialized ATV. “We saw a woman lying on the floor unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing. We provided advanced medical treatment that included prolonged resuscitation efforts, but unfortunately we had no choice but to pronounce her dead at the scene,” they explained.
