Three Detained After Carbon Dioxide Leak Hospitalizes Women in East Jerusalem
Israeli police have launched an investigation following a hazardous materials incident in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of A-Tur on Wednesday. Three suspects were detained in connection with the event, which involved the leakage of carbon dioxide gas from a generator improperly installed at the site.
Emergency services evacuated 14 women aged between 20 and 40, who were found unconscious or semi-conscious. The women were transported to various hospitals in Jerusalem with conditions ranging from moderate to severe. United Hatzalah medics reported treating about 20 men and women at the scene who experienced symptoms consistent with poisoning.
Paramedics from Magen David Adom described arriving to chaos, with 12 women emerging from a cosmetic clinic, some with altered consciousness. They provided advanced medical care and evacuated the patients, most in moderate or mild condition. Firefighters also responded to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the gas leak. Police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the unsafe placement of the generator and the resulting CO2 exposure.
