Explosions Reported in Southern Iran Amid Rising Tensions Over Strait of Hormuz

On Monday evening, multiple explosions were reported across southern Iran, including Bandar Abbas, Larak Island, Qeshm Island, and the Strait of Hormuz. Local sources described several blasts in Bandar Abbas and four powerful explosions on Qeshm Island, with missile attacks also reported on Larak and Qeshm. Residents noted the presence of fighter jets in the skies during the incidents. The Tasnim news agency confirmed explosions near the Strait of Hormuz, linked to attacks on ships in the area.

These events follow U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration in a Fox News interview earlier the same day, stating that the United States is "taking control of the Strait of Hormuz" due to Iran violating a prior agreement. Trump referred to Iran as "a group of bad people" and announced plans to impose a 20% transit fee on all cargo passing through the strait. Subsequently, the U.S. Navy-led Maritime Information Center announced a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, effective from 23:00 Israel time on Tuesday.

The American blockade reportedly covers the entire Iranian coastline, including ports and oil terminals, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran. These developments come amid a backdrop of heightened conflict and exchanges of fire between the two countries.
