US Military Reveals New Suicide Maritime Drones in Strikes Against Iranian Naval Base
The United States military has for the first time released footage showing the use of new suicide maritime drones in its recent strikes against Iran. The Central Command (CENTCOM) shared video of the attack on the Iranian naval base in Bandar Abbas, located on the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, three unmanned surface vessels of the 'Corsair' model targeted and struck the maintenance and repair facility used for submarines and ships at the base.
This marks the debut of these maritime drones in active combat operations by US forces. CENTCOM stated that the strikes significantly impaired Iran's ability to carry out attacks against commercial vessels in the strategic waterway. The new weapon operates similarly to aerial explosive drones, designed to navigate toward a target and detonate upon impact.
In response to the US threats around the Strait of Hormuz, an Iranian security official told Lebanese channel Al-Mayadeen that Washington cannot dictate the future of this vital shipping route. The official emphasized that the Strait has belonged to Iran for thousands of years, long before the United States existed, and that Iran controls its security and management. He warned that repeated US provocations could lead to an escalation of Iranian countermeasures, urging the US and its allies to respect the existing order in the region.
