Israir Wins Tender to Operate Subsidized Flights Between Tel Aviv and Eilat at 99 Shekels
Israir has secured the tender from the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority to operate the subsidized flight route between Ben Gurion Airport and Ramon Airport near Eilat. The airline committed to running at least five daily flights, exceeding the minimum requirement of four, and offering up to 40 seats per flight to Eilat residents at a subsidized price of 99 shekels each way. The government will subsidize the route with approximately 10 million shekels annually.
According to the tender conditions, Israir must commence operations within 45 days, with the contract lasting one year. This initiative aims to ensure continuous air service between central Israel and Eilat throughout the year, benefiting residents, workers, students, and visitors.
Transportation Minister Miri Regev emphasized that the tender guarantees a regular, affordable flight schedule tailored to public needs, thanking the Finance Ministry for funding the project. Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri welcomed the decision, highlighting the importance of reliable air connectivity for access to healthcare, economy, education, and academia, and expressed hope that the move would restore public confidence in the flight network.
