Israir Wins Contract to Operate Discounted Flights Between Central Israel and Eilat
The Israeli Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority announced that Israir Airlines has won the tender to operate a regular flight route between central Israel and Eilat. Under the agreement, residents of Eilat will be able to purchase one-way tickets for just 99 shekels. Israir is required to operate at least four daily flights year-round, with two flights in the morning and two in the evening in both directions. The airline committed to running at least five daily flights, exceeding the minimum requirement, and must begin service within 45 days. The contract duration is one year, during which seats will be reserved specifically for residents of Eilat and the Eilot region.
The Ministry of Transport explained that this initiative aims to ensure continuous air service between Eilat and central Israel, addressing previous complaints from residents about flight shortages, cancellations, and uncertainty. The tender is designed to provide reliable transportation for residents, workers, students, and visitors throughout the year.
Transportation Minister Miri Regev emphasized that the move strengthens Eilat's connection to central Israel and guarantees affordable, continuous air access for its residents. Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri welcomed the decision, highlighting that consistent air service is essential for residents' access to healthcare, employment, education, and academic opportunities.
