Israeli Military Maintains Overseas Officer Guidelines Amid Iranian Revenge Threats
Following public threats by Iranian officials to avenge the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, including direct warnings against American and Israeli leaders, the Israeli military's Operations Directorate stated there has been no change in instructions for officers and soldiers abroad. This clarification came despite security sources indicating heightened alert levels at Israeli embassies and sensitive locations overseas due to fears of Iranian retaliatory attacks.
During Khamenei's funeral procession, strong anti-American and anti-Israeli messages were prominently displayed, with numerous signs and banners condemning U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. One banner featured Trump's image with the Persian phrase "We will not abandon you," while videos showed participants throwing bottles at the sign.
Additionally, the Iranian newspaper Al-Mashregh, owned by Tehran municipality, published a front-page threat targeting Netanyahu and Trump, depicting them in prisoner uniforms with crosshairs on their foreheads. The publication also included images of other Israeli officials such as Defense Minister Israel Katz, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, and IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. On the American side, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper, and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee were also depicted.
For years, Iranian units have reportedly maintained contacts with global criminal organizations to carry out "dirty" missions. The Shin Bet declined to comment on these developments. The situation underscores ongoing tensions and the potential for escalated covert actions in response to Khamenei's killing.
