Trump Shares Rare Footage of US Strategic Bombers Amid Iran Strikes
US President Donald Trump recently posted unusual footage on his Truth Social platform showing two heavy strategic bombers, the B-2 and B-1, of the US Air Force. This release comes amid a series of extensive US military strikes against Iranian targets over the past week.
Last week, the US completed three rounds of intense attacks on Iran, culminating in a major operation between Saturday night and Sunday morning. These actions were prompted by an Iranian Revolutionary Guards attack on the container ship GFS Galaxy in the Strait of Hormuz, which caused a fire in the ship's engine room, disabling it and resulting in the disappearance of a civilian crew member.
In response, the US Central Command targeted approximately 140 military sites in the final phase, hitting over 300 targets throughout the week. These included missile and drone sites, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks, and coastal surveillance locations. US Defense Secretary Pete Gassert described Iran's actions as a "tragic decision" with ongoing consequences. The strikes aimed to reduce Iran's capability to threaten civilian mariners and international trade routes.
Meanwhile, Qatar and Kuwait reported intercepting ballistic missiles and handling air attacks within their territories. Iran declared a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz and threatened further attacks on US bases, labeling the US actions as "interventionist." Explosions were reported in strategic Iranian cities such as Jask, Bandar Abbas, and Bushehr, as well as in Doha, Bahrain, and the UAE.
The intelligence fog around these explosions suggests the US may have targeted Revolutionary Guards' power centers to cripple Iran's response capacity. These developments mark the collapse of a recently signed memorandum of understanding, which Trump called a "dead letter" due to continued Iranian aggression. The US maintains significant naval and air forces in the region, including the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and ongoing F-16 patrols. US Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker affirmed the administration's commitment to protecting the president from Iranian threats and praised the current policy for curbing Iran's regional proxies.
