Prosecutors Seek Harsher Sentence for Former Officer Convicted of Raping 15-Year-Old Girl

The criminal division of the State Attorney’s Office has filed an appeal against the sentence of former police officer Raaim Haib, who was convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl in February 2023 while serving as a police officer and being responsible for returning her to the residence where she was staying. Haib was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison, and the prosecution is now seeking to increase his punishment, saying it does not reflect the severity of his actions. Haib was convicted of rape under aggravated circumstances, attempted rape, indecent acts, threats, sexual harassment, fraud and breach of trust.
