US Deploys Two Aircraft Carriers Near Iran Amid Rising Tensions and Diplomatic Efforts

The United States has deployed two aircraft carriers, the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H.W. Bush, into the Gulf of Oman alongside more than 20 warships operating in the region, according to a report by the New York Post. This naval buildup is seen as a potential preparation for reinstating a maritime blockade on Iranian ports. The carriers are operating within Iran's missile range, highlighting the heightened tensions in the area.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that over 20 US Navy warships are patrolling Middle Eastern waters to promote regional security and stability but declined to comment on whether this was directly linked to plans for a blockade against Iran. Retired Admiral Mark Montgomery, a senior researcher at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, noted that US naval forces naturally move closer to Iranian threat zones when preparing for maritime interdiction and escort missions.

Alongside military maneuvers, diplomatic efforts continue with a Qatari delegation recently concluding a visit to Iran aimed at reducing tensions in coordination with the US. Iranian officials are also expected to travel to Oman for talks concerning the Strait of Hormuz and navigation issues in Iranian territorial waters.

This escalation follows President Donald Trump's recent announcement that he considers the US-Iran memorandum of understanding void after Iran attacked three ships in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Washington revoked Iran's oil export exemptions and conducted military strikes along Iran's coast. Despite the rising conflict, Trump expressed willingness to engage in further talks with Tehran, though no official negotiations have been announced yet.
