Jerusalem Kindergartens Face Safety and Licensing Scrutiny Amid Allegations
A recent undercover investigation has raised concerns about the safety and licensing status of several kindergartens in Jerusalem, potentially endangering thousands of children. The Ministry of Education responded by stating it does not license educational institutions without proper building permits and compliance with safety regulations. It confirmed that the kindergartens mentioned had received licenses after completing the required procedures and announced plans to send inspection teams to verify the claims.
Jerusalem Municipality clarified that most of the kindergartens involved had previously obtained permits for exceptional use or were undergoing regulatory adjustments. It also noted that some kindergartens have already relocated or will do so soon. The municipality emphasized that Eliezer Rauchberger does not oversee ultra-Orthodox education, which is managed by a professional department operating according to the law.
The Israel Fire and Rescue Services stated they conduct regular inspections of educational institutions nationwide and take significant action, including closures, if serious violations are found. Meanwhile, the Land Enforcement Authority pointed out that responsibility for planning and construction violations lies directly with the local authority, identifying Jerusalem Municipality as accountable for the legality of educational facilities in the city.
