Ryanair Passenger Nearly Pulled Out of Broken Window During Flight Over North Macedonia
A 61-year-old passenger on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, narrowly escaped being sucked out of a broken window after it shattered mid-flight. The incident occurred over North Macedonia when a piece of the plane's engine reportedly broke off and struck the window, causing it to break. The passenger, whose head and shoulders were partially outside the aircraft, was saved by fellow travelers and his wife, who held him in place until he could be pulled back inside. He was later hospitalized with burns but is in stable condition.
Passengers described hearing a loud noise similar to a tire bursting, followed by a sudden cabin pressure drop and the release of oxygen masks. One witness told the New York Post that there was a strong smell in the air and initial panic as some feared an emergency door had been opened. The plane, which was near Munich at the time, returned safely to Thessaloniki airport, where passengers were transferred to an alternate flight. Ryanair confirmed the event, stating the aircraft landed normally and that medical assistance was provided to the affected passenger on the ground.
