Israeli Police Charge Man for Pointing Gun at Officer During Negev Chase

The Southern District Prosecutor's Office filed charges and requested detention against a man in his twenties from Kseifa after he pointed a gun at a police officer during a chase in the Negev. The incident occurred on June 22 in the Abu Juda area during a police operation by officers from the Arara station. The officers spotted the suspect holding a Glock pistol and ordered him to stop, but he fled on foot. During the pursuit, the suspect turned and aimed the gun at the upper body of one officer, who then shot and wounded him. The firearm was recovered at the scene, and the suspect was arrested and taken for medical treatment and investigation.

The indictment includes charges of carrying and transporting a weapon and obstructing a police officer in the performance of duty. The prosecution also requested that the suspect remain in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings. Baruch Honig, commander of the Arara station, praised the officer's determination and professionalism in facing a real threat to life and highlighted the thorough investigation that quickly led to the indictment. He emphasized the ongoing commitment to act decisively against illegal weapons possession that endangers public safety and security forces.
