IDF Locates Burial Site of 1948 Fallen Soldier Yaakov Zarhyan
The Israel Defense Forces announced the discovery of the burial site of Yaakov Zarhyan, a soldier who fell during the 1948 supply convoys to besieged Jerusalem in Operation Harel. Until now, Zarhyan's burial location was unknown. An investigation by the Missing Persons Unit revealed that Zarhyan was interred in a mass grave at Kiryat Anavim alongside seven other IDF soldiers who participated in the convoys.
Family members, including Zarhyan's sisters, received an update from the IDF's Chief Human Resources Officer and Head of the Casualties Division, Edna Ilia, confirming the conclusion of the investigation and the resolution of the mystery surrounding his disappearance. Zarhyan's sister, Yvonne Cohen, expressed deep relief, stating, "For me, finding his burial place means the world; I will call my sons so they can recite Kaddish for the first time at his grave."
